Malaria prophylactics are very important if traveling through infected areas. Prevent getting bitten by using an effective mosquito repellent, ensuring your mosquito net is closed and wearing long clothes and socks/shoes at night. For more information on malaria, visit www.travelclinic.co.za
AIDS is prevalent throughout Southern Africa. Be careful and practice safe sex at all times. Men-wear a condom!

Currency and banking

The South African Rand is usable throughout Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe. Traveller’s cheques and credit cards can be used to pay for activities in Namibia. Credit cards should not be used in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and Kenya. US$ bills are the most widely accepted currency but you should avoid carrying $100 dollar bills. Small bills are best. It is generally cheaper and easier to arrange your foreign exchange in your home country. The trucks generally have a safe on board for your money, passports etc.

Laundry facilities on tour

Most campsites have hand washing facilities and in certain of the larger sites they have a full laundry service. Please remember to bring along your own bio-degradable washing powder.

Drinking water

A common ailment on tours is dehydration. You should drink a minimum of 3 litres of water a day in summer. The water on the route is generally drinkable, but your guides will advise you when not to drink the local water. Mineral water is available in most places but this can be expensive.

Optional activities

Optional activities are not included in the tour price for 2 reasons. Not everyone can afford to do all the activities on offer and secondly not everyone wants to do all the activities. All activities are paid for in US$ cash to your tour leader.
